The Head and the Heart Delight in Boston

On a breezy night in the Seaport, the acclaimed indie-folk band The Head & The Heart took to the stage with support from Jade Bird. A crowd of all ages, many of whom wore tour tees from previous tours, filled the pavilion as the sun set.

Jade Bird opened the show with her unique sound that is somehow simultaneously rock, folk, Americana, and singer-songwriter. She started solo with just a guitar, playing hits like “I Get No Joy”.

She was then joined by two other musicians, a bassist and her fianceé who played guitar and harmonica. The three created beautiful harmonies, playing originals like “Prototype” and covering “Edge of Seventeen” by Fleetwood Mac. Overall, we were stunned at the quality of Jade’s voice and how she managed to captivate the audience with such a stripped-back set.

Towards the end of the show, they played my personal favorite, “Down in the Valley,” and brought Jade Bird and her band back on stage for “Lost in My Mind.”

The encore ended with “Rivers and Roads”, bringing most of the crowd (including myself) to tears.

This was one of those shows that makes you fall in love with the songs they played even more. I found myself listening to both The Head and The Heart and Jade Bird constantly for weeks after the show. Something about seeing all of the people and instruments that make those songs happen really adds to the listening experience.

If you’re ever considering seeing The Head and The Heart or Jade Bird live, absolutely do it! They are artists that you can tell are meant to be on the stage.
